Paul is a Registered Nurse working in the Level I Trauma Emergency Room of the inner city hospital in Charleston, WV. He worked the three in the afternoon to three in the morning shift, which sometimes turned into a double shift that had him leaving the ER at seven thirty in the morning and rushing off to class at a near-by college where he was taking classes to get into a veterinary medical school. Which pays off in the end of their long struggles.

The ER shifts, classes he attended during the day and working at the Dunbar Animal Hospital provided the adrenaline he so thrived on, but lack of sleep that he didn't. When the sun went down the amount and severity of the trauma patients that presented to the ER both increased. It may have been a rough shift that many avoided, but Paul seemed to do better as the stress and traumas increased. Patients ranging from gunshot wounds to the utterly psychotic presented themselves in many times rare form through the doors of the ER. Whether that be, by ambulance or in the back of a pickup truck, they came by the droves some nights. On the slower nights Paul would use them to read and study for his next days classes that ranged from Physics, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry to Calculus.

Paul would leave the ER early Saturday mornings and head to his second job at the animal hospital. Long hours though they may have been, they were training him for the rigors of vet school and the potential residencies that lay ahead of him.

Many of the most interesting nights were spent triaging patients that were ambulatory in their decision to be treated in the ER. Paul wasn’t ever a fan of psychiatry rotations in school or at work, but he garnered many valuable lessons in studying the people that were both separated from him in the waiting room by just the walls of the triage desk to the beds of 'G' back where the majority of the psychiatric patients were placed to await consults from the psych residents. As well as the patient who was left alone for a weekend by his family and during that time decided to blow the front of his skull off while remaining seated on the couch watching cartoons. It was an extraordinary job, but one Paul found unfathomably different and on some nights quite entertaining with an Elvis impersonator dancing up and down the halls of the ER for the 'general entertainment'.

Working in the trauma definitely wasn't for the faint of heart, but Paul liked it and it passed the time, as well as paid the bills, until he could get into vet school. Not to mention the romance he struck up with Kelly, a now trauma surgery attending. Who he proposed to in front of the entire ER one night after their shifts were over. Soon to be his wife Kelly and Paul are deeply in love. Will this be the book for them to get married? Paul is in Vet School at the Univ. of Florida and Kelly is an attending trauma surgeon at the medical center at the hospital. There's an extremely good likelihood of marriage in this book, but Paul gets shot on a trip back to West Virginia and over a year later he is still having problems with the left shoulder blade where he was shot. Is it just a pain issue, is he dependent or developed an addiction to the narcotics, presenting a new problem or is it something more serious. Has the bone not healed properly or was there damage to the muscles, brachial plexus, nerves and tendons that help move the arm properly or was it an addiction? Either way it could put his career as a veterinarian and a Registered Nurse at risk.

All of the trauma stories are true, but the names of patients were changed to protect the innocent and insane. All of the book has been rewritten to include the proper punctuation, grammar, and quotations. I have a vivid imagination, so some of the content is added to make it more interesting.

Life in the ER After Midnight Book 3 eBook JP Struck Irene Krokus

This books picks up from where book two left off. Now instead of being in WV they have moved. To where you will have to read. Another book with explective details about the life of a trauma surgeon and an ER nurse. Paul goes fishing and you will never beleive waht happened. You will enjoy the part where Kelly's mother comes and visits to help plan the wedding. Again, the reason this series is good is because the author writes it like he is telling it.
